Profile
Raaja Bhasin is a widely published writer who is considered an authority on Shimla and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from his books, articles and editorial assignments which have received considerable critical acclaim, Raaja Bhasin has been associated with different organizations in various capacities. At the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (housed in the former Viceregal Lodge, Shimla) he was the curator of a collection of period photographs and artifacts; he helped prepare the initial pre-launch publicity material for the Oberoi Group’s hotels, The Cecil and Wildflower Hall; he has also prepared a large corpus of the publicity material for Himachal Tourism, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and for various hotels and resorts like the Chalets Naldehra. Featuring him, recent television programmes include Himalaya with Michael Palin and India with Sanjeev Bhaskar. Then, some depends on the hat of the day. On one day he may be working as the academic advisor to a graduate student, on another conducting a group of executives on a 'team-building exercise' or doing a voice-over for a corporate presentation. He lectures occasionally at various places including at the National Academy of Audit and Accounts. Having once considered acting as a career (he won numerous prizes and awards including some major regional ones while at university), he is still actively involved with theatre. He is a member of the Heritage Advisory Committee of the Government of Himachal Pradesh and also has been actively involved with various heritage projects like the Kalka Shimla Railway line (now, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). He spends most of the year in Shimla. You may like to read: http://www.tribuneindia.com/2005/20051003/region.htm
